Tell us about the people, places, culture and story of Europe in pictures - that was the theme of our #MakingEurope2019 photo competition which celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe.
Created in 1949, the Council of Europe counts 47 countries covering 840 million people. Its core values are Human Rights – Democracy –Rule of Law. Against this background, the competition was intended to spur reflection about the common thread between these countries and people, their reality, challenges, expectations and hopes for a better future.
Over 2,000 entries were submitted in five categories: #people, #places, #moments, #challenges, and #blackandwhite.
A jury made of 3 Council of Europe personalities: Liliane Maury-Pasquier, President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Judge Linos-Alexandre Sicilianos, President of the European Court of Human Rights and Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, Deputy Secretary General, and 3 design experts: David Cascaro (France), Dina Oganova (Georgia) and Karoliina Veijo (Finland) who selected the winner for each category and the overall winner.
“The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do, Andy Warhol said. When seeing the photo “A goodbye kiss”, we wish that these young people stay forever so, young and loving, oblivious of the time and the space”
