Former journalist Georg Kahn-Ackermann was a member of the German Social Democrats. He was a believer in grassroots democracy who worked to bring non-governmental organisations (NGOs) closer into the work of the Council of Europe. He was the author of a number of books and was active in defending writers’ rights.
