Fall of the Berlin Wall

Following weeks of civil unrest the Communist East German government announced that all its citizens could visit West Germany and West Berlin. Crowds of people crossed and climbed over the Berlin Wall, marking the beginning of a seismic change in European history including the break up of the Soviet Union.
