National minorities protected against discrimination

All Countries

The second Council of Europe Summit in Strasbourg in 1997 stressed the need for better protection for national minorities. This was the response: the first legally binding multilateral treaty to promote diverse societies. Under the Convention, countries have introduced laws on minority rights, schools have begun to offer teaching for minorities in their own languages and radio stations have started up broadcasts in minority languages.
