All CountriesProtecting regional and minority languages is an important aspect of respecting a person’s identity. The European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages goes hand in hand with the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities to ensure that minorities receive proper respect for their rights. From the Sami language spoken in the far North to the Yezedi spoken in Armenia, the Charter allows people not only to express themselves in their mother tongue, but to be able to use it in court or in their interactions with local authorities and healthcare providers.
