Children's rights in Court proceedings

All Countries

Landmark cases in the Human Rights Court had brought to the fore practices that were unfair to children in the courts. The Convention on the Exercise of Children’s Rights set about changing the way that children are treated in the legal system, acknowledging that they have a right to a voice in what happens to them, and that procedures needed to be adapted to make them friendlier and fairer to children in cases that concern such matters as custody, residence, access, adoption, guardianship, care procedures and protection from cruel or degrading treatment.
