28 October 2011 Making drugs safe
Russian FederationAdvances in technology have allowed criminals to experiment in new forms of crime, and amongst the most dangerous is faking drugs. Even more profitable than drug trafficking, fake drugs are often hard to track down and it is easy for the perpetrators to escape justice or get off with light sentences. Yet the fake drug trade is incredibly dangerous…either because the fakes are toxic or because they have no effect – robbing a patient of the medicine they need. The Medicrime Convention is the first binding text to tackle the problem at international level by criminalising counterfeiting, protecting victims’ rights and bringing countries closer together to investigate cases. More on the Medicrime Convention.
