Dunja Mijatović of Bosnia and Herzegovina became the first woman to hold the post of Human Rights Commissioner in 2018. She is an expert on media law and media regulation who became chair of the European Platform of Regulatory Agencies in 2007, the first non-EU member and the first woman to hold the post. From 2010 to 2017 she campaigned for the rights of journalists as the Representative on Freedom of the Media at the Vienna-based Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
