70th anniversary photo competition

A special photo competition to mark the Council of Europe’s 70th anniversary received more than 2,000 entries. There were five categories: people, places, moments, challenges and black and white. The competition was intended to spur reflection about the common thread connecting people living in the organisation’s 47 countries: their reality, challenges, expectations and hopes for a better future.

The winning entry came from Lidiia Kozhevnikova from Ukraine, whose photo of a group of people on a Baltic beach was described by the judges as “a powerful image of solidarity and togetherness in a visually perfect composition”.
